The annual Memorial Day Parade in downtown Grand Rapids began at 7:30 PM down Division Ave. to
Fulton St. to Veterans Park. Many Color Guards from Kent County were in the parade. This was a
special year due to the fact the new memorial was unveiled for the first time on Memorial Day for the â
€œGold Star Mothers" who have recently lost their son's in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Teater rode in the parade in a place
of honor as "Kent County Veteran
of the Year" and presented
comments at the ceremonies at
Veterans Park.
Mike Burri, Post 305 member and Commander of the Kent County Honor Guard
announces the unveiling of the new Operation Iraqi Freedom Memorial for those members
of the military forces from Kent County Killed In Action in Iraqi and Afghanistan. The
"Gold Star Mothers" got up and went to veiw the new memorial. Mike spent many long
hours on seeing to the placement of this memorial with his nephews name at the top right

At the conclusion of the ceremonies the Firing
Squad of Civil War rifles "Saluted the Dead" with
"Taps".
