Welcome back from our summer break. It's time to pay our dues again, $45.00 for the 2018 year. Saturday, September 2nd is our All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast Buffet from 8am-10:30am. Open to the public. The Executive Board will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 5th at 7pm. The next Legion General Meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 7:30pm. The SAL is having a Steak Fry on Saturday, Sept. 16th from 4-8pm. Open to the public and open liquor license that day. We just finished our second Texas Hold 'Em of the summer. Many THANKS to all who volunteered! (Legion, Sons, and Aux.) Without you, this big money maker would not happen! The next one will be in November, so look for the sign-up sheet at our meetings and on the lounge door.
Over the summer our Post members were involved in activities around the community. We held the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies at five Cemeteries, led the 4th of July Parade, and were the Color Guard, Firing Squad, and Flag Folding Ceremony presenters at the dedication ceremony of Middleville's Veterans Memorial, to begin their Heritage Days Celebration. Our American Legion Riders attended the Yankee Springs Memorial Day service, a Memorial Ride from Grandville Post 179, a POW/MIA Veteran Benefit ride from Reds in Middleville, and will assist and ride in the Red, White and Blue Event on Sept.16th sponsored by Boondox, leaving from our Post that day.
There have been a few significant improvements made to the Post and grounds this summer. New LED lights were installed in the parking lot and under the canopy at the front door. (Thanks to Bill VanPortFleet for getting rebates for the replacements.) Todd Grinage, Dan Erskine, and myself secured donations of crushed asphalt to cover the dirt parking area in the back lot. And a sincere Thank You to Alaska Excavating for donating their time and equipment to spread the piles of crushed asphalt. No more parking in the mud! The biggest renovation was done to the Hall bathrooms by a few dedicated members. (They will be recognized at a laterdate.) The walls were tiled, new toilets, sinks and fixtures were installed. Thanks guys, for doing all that back breaking work. This redo was all made possible by a most generous donation from our Sons of the American Legion. A BIG THANKS goes out to our SONS! Thank you also to the Auxiliary for donating the mirrors.
I hope everyone had a great summer. See you soon, Wally Brodock Jr.

From the SAL Commander
Hello Fellow SAL Members,
Just a quick introduction to SAL members about myself.; My name is Tony Huver and I was elected as the new SAL commander at the last meeting in the spring. I have lived in the Alto /Caledonia area for most my life. Like many of you, I chose to become a SAL to honor someone special. That person is my father Dan, a post 305 legionnaire. I look forward to continuing the great leadership that post 305 is accustomed too. I am already overwhelmed by the support that I have been given by many former commanders and mentors of our post.
Our next SAL meeting is September 11th, social hour starting at 6:30 pm followed by the meeting at 7: 00 pm sharp. The September meeting will be swearing in of the new officers, please try and attend and enjoy dinner on us.
I would like to mention that I started a Facebook page called ‘Caledonia Post 305 Sons of the American Legion’, where we can post upcoming events and request for volunteers. I know of many members who would like to volunteer but may be out of the loop on the current needs. Hopefully this will get more members involved.
The following are the new officers elected to serve our post for the upcoming term: First Vice President Terry Noffsinger, Second Vice President/Membership Daryl Penfold, Adjutant Jim Gless, Finance Officer Kirk Kemp, Sargent at Arms Larry Marzean, Historian Jerry Huver, and Chaplain Randy Eggers.
One note on Bingo, it has been voted on to suspend Bingo as there is a lack of volunteers to take over as the Chairperson of Bingo. If you are interested please contact an Officer ASAP.
Lastly a reminder to start renewing your membership cards for the 2018 calendar year. Please see Daryl Penfold to renew. Stop by and check out the new menu items at the kitchen, you will leave happy and full. Tony Huver

ALR DIRECTOR NEWS
Greeting from the Legion Riders!
It has been a long and busy summer but we are quickly approaching fall and a cooler riding season. The national Legacy Run just finished in Reno, NV and we were lucky enough to be represented by two of our own riders, Dennis and Julee Peterson. Thanks to both of you for bringing and presenting a $1400 check from our post to the Legacy Run! That charity does a lot of great work for the children of our brothers and sisters killed while serving their country. Project Red, White and Blue, sponsored by Boondox motorsports, will be starting from our post on Saturday September 16th with registration at 11 AM and kickstands up at noon. All types of vehicles are welcome, this is an event to support our veterans and a great turnout would help a lot. Also please join us on Wednesdays for our Wednesday rides, we meet at the post at 6 and ride out to have dinner somewhere, returning about 8:30. Hope to see you all there and ride safe! Dan Wisniewski
