It’s that time again, time to get back to newsletters and monthly meetings. Watch for upcoming dates for our pig and lamb roast and famous fish fry’s. Once again John Loftus has generously donated pig and lamb to our post. We can always use your help at these events so don’t hesitate to join in on working at least one function a year.
Our first meeting this season will be September 7th. Hope to see you there. Jimmy Staggers Band will be at the post Saturday Sept. 17. This event is open to the public. So plan ahead and bring your friends down for music and dancing. Cover is only $3.00 per person. Where else can you have fun and hear a band for less.
Karaoke has been a lot of fun on Friday nights. You don’t have to be a great singer to have a good time with Karaoke. We are going to be open on Sunday’s for Football season. Should have a big screen in the lounge by time the regular season starts. Stop by the post and watch the Lions roar this year. We also will have the NFL ticket so you can watch your favorite out of town team.
Hope everyone enjoyed Summer, Don Stevens
From the Auxiliary
Hello Ladies!!
Now that summer is almost over, it’s time to get back to business again. Our first meeting will be on September 14th. Social hour is at 6:00PM with the meeting beginning at 7:00PM. We have had a lot of new members sign up throughout the summer, so I hope you will all start out the New Year and make it a point to attend and participate in the meetings. We will be swearing in the Officer’s, so be sure to come and meet them all.
Remember the Auxiliary plays a key role in the Legion’s success and it takes all of our contributions. So come and find out how you can make a difference.
Hope you enjoy the rest of the summer and I look forward to seeing soon.
Make a great day…. Kristen Lazarski
From the SAL Commander
Hello all you SAL members, It is hard to believe September is upon us already. I hope you all enjoyed the summer and are now ready for this upcoming year events,
Thank you to a very successful COW PIE to all those that helped with this event. WE have a Texas Hold em event to work September 18 through the 21st, this year it would be nice to see some new faces working as the rest of us are beginning to get burned out, we make some good money doing this and it doesn't take a lot of work .... 3 hr. shifts counting chips and counting money (ALL YOU ACCOUNTANTS WOULD BE A WHIZ AT THIS) there is a sign up sheet on the board at the post.
Some new changes have been made in our by-laws and we will vote on these at the September meeting. So plan on attending and cast your vote. A small dinner will be provided at the September 21st meeting so all you surprise me and show up and enjoy the dinner and the meeting!!!!
We also have more Texas hold em events Oct and Nov so if you miss this upcoming one there are two more to help with.
Over the summer we lost two SAL members Dwain Borr He was usually seen on Thursday's playing pool. Also Jerry Anderson has passed away on August 15th our oldest SAL member, and Gary “Squeak " Tolan is recovering from meningitis so please keep our deceased member's families in your thoughts and prayers and send Gary a card or pay him a visit. Remember Son’s.....why we are members of Post 305 and see you at the September meeting Happy hour at 6:00 meeting at 7:00
Bless our troops......... Todd Grinage

From the Webmaster
It is a new season and once again your trusting servant is requesting those of you with email to consider receiving your monthly newsletter by email. Times are tough for all of us and it would certainly help minimizing operational costs for the Post. So far we have 102 members receiving the newsletter by email, why not consider trying it? We can always change you back to the paper copy if you wish. To request an email copy do so at calmilegion@yahoo.com.
If anyone has an event or function that they would like posted on our web site, there are two ways that this could be done. Email your request to calmilegion@yahoo.com or call the Post at 616-891- 1882.
Just a reminder, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Uccello’s provides a discount for all veterans showing their American Legion Membership card. ABC Warehouse, the one on 28th St., will provide a discount on items purchased if you deal with Steve, the store manager and present your Legion, Auxiliary or SAL membership card to him.
