Fall is here, another season of change. A big change for our Legion is that Dan Wisniewski has left the office of Post Adjutant to further his education. I would personally like say "Thank You Dan" for your service to this Post. Dan has worked many hours, to make this a younger, stronger, and more successful Legion Post. Continued best wishes to you, Dan!
I'd also like to let you know, that in the 2016/2017 Legion calendar year, our Post donated over $6200 to various Veterans programs. We have jointly and individually worked hundreds of hours for our disabled and homeless Veterans. We are Legion Strong for those who cannot be. Well done Post 305!
On Sat. Sept. 16, we had Boondox "Red, White And Blue" motorcycle (and all vehicle) run use our hall and parking lot for their starting point. The funds that they raised assist the families of police, first responders and firefighters. A big turnout. Lots of bikes. That evening our Sons of the American Legion held Spuds Steak Fry. What a great dinner! Thanks SONS!
Friday, October 6th, there is a Polish Dinner at our Post sponsored by Community Rebuilders. This is open to the public. What a great way to support this group that houses veterans with no safe place to call home.
Saturday, October 7th is our All-you-can-eat Breakfast Buffet, 8am - 10:30am. Start the day with a hearty, delicious meal. Then come back at noon for the Auxiliary Euchre, and to watch lots of College football. Bring snacks.
On Saturday, October 28, from 2 to 4 PM is our Trunk or Treat event in the Hall. This Halloween party is open to all children in the Caledonia area. As well as, to the kids, grandkids of our Legion Family members. We will have donuts, cider, fun and games, and CANDY! There is a barrel in the Lounge to fill with donated bags of store bought, wrapped Halloween candy. Please give generously! The day of the event, help is needed, before for setup and decorating, frying donuts and helping at the candy tables, and after for the cleanup. Costumes for the workers are encouraged, optional but not necessary.
I hope everyone has had a chance to see the remodel that was done in the Hall bathrooms. A whole new look. Now there are some things that need to be done in the other areas. Come to the meeting for details.
The next E-board meeting is Monday, October 2nd, at 7pm. The next Legion General meeting is Wednesday, October 4th, social and dinner at 6:30 and meeting at 7:30 pm. (Upcoming dates; November E-board meeting Monday, Oct. 30th. Wednesday, Nov. 1st is the General meeting. Saturday, November 11th is the Veterans Day Ceremony at our Post.)
Enjoy Fall, Wally Brodock Jr.
From the Auxiliary President
Welcome to Fall, Auxiliary Members,
We experience many changes this time of year. Changes in weather, in the trees, plants and gardens. We also begin changes in our Auxiliary Units. Change of officers, chairmen, and programs. But the fruits of the past are not lost on the present. Thank you Victoria Waite for your time as Secretary. That is by far the hardest office in the Auxiliary and you performed it well. Thank you Kaleigh Wisniewski for serving as Membership Chairman these few years. Past President Lisa Hyde and I appreciate the work that you did under our administrations. Thank you Lori Trutsch for being the Poppy Chairman for many years. You have been a wonderful Poppy Poster Contest liaison between the Unit, the school art teachers and students. Many students have been Unit and District Poster winners. And a few State and National winners were possible because of your guidance. (This year, 2 of our State winners were sent on to National. More info in Nov.)

From the SAL Commander
Good Day SAL Members,
By the time this goes to print it will be opening of Bow hunting season in Michigan and fall will be fast approaching. The first meeting of the season is in the books and the new officers in place. I would like to thank Commander Wally for stopping by and participating in the ceremony. I would also like to thank Chef Joe for the great dinner he made for the SAL members who attended. Next meeting will be October 9th at 7: 00pm sharp. Social hour begins at 6:30 pm so stop in and see what Chef Joe has whipped up for the SAL attendees.
Also by this time the Steak fry will be completed and a huge thanks to Jerry Huver, Mr.Bill, Kirk and Marie Kemp, Amy Tolan and Amy Dunnuc for helping making this fundraiser happen. Part of the proceeds will be going to the Veterans’ Home for Christmas Wreaths. As always there are many people who help out on a fundraiser to make it a success and I would like to thank all who worked and attended. Generally the volunteers have as much fun as the customers.
Be sure to check out the new bathrooms in the hall as they have been updated and appear ready to serve your needs. The Hall is available to rent so contact Cami with inquiries.
The new kitchen hours are posted on the calendar and the menu is worth stopping in and sampling the many fine new dishes that have been a huge hit. Be sure to swing in and see Daryl Penfold and pay your 2018 membership dues. Pay early and save Daryl the trouble of mailing, calling and showing up at your house unannounced. Dues are $30.00 for 2018.
If any member of Post 305 is interested in chairing the Bingo committee please contact Tom Hyde or myself to learn more about it. As of now there will be no bingo available until a couple helpers are found.
A reminder that the new SAL Facebook page is available and we will be posting news and opportunities to volunteer. Go to “Caledonia Post 305 Sons of the American Legion” and join. Best of luck to our hunters, shoot straight, enjoy the outdoors and bring the rest of us jerky samples.
See you at the next meeting, Tony Huver
