|American Legion Post 305 - February - 2019
From the Legion Commander
Hello Legion Family,
February will be a busy month for our Legion. We will be kicking it off with our Saturday Breakfast and the Auxiliary
Euchre Tournament which is always a great turn out for both. We will have the Auxiliaries Annual Bear and Wine
Tasting and then the following week The Chili Cook off and Corn Hole Tournament. Thanks to all the volunteers
that help make these events a success and our ability to give back to Veterans and the Community.
Last Month we had our first go around of Texas Holdem. This is great fundraiser for us and we appreciate all the
time taken out of your busy schedules to make that event happen.
It has come to my attention that we have many Veterans in our ranks that might not be receiving benefit’s that they
are entitled to. Please, if you know someone that falls into this category have them contact myself and I will assist
them in getting the information they need to ensure they get what is deserved to them. We should not leave any
Veteran alone especially in our own ranks.
Upcoming Events for the Legion: March 8th will be the First Fish Fry of the Lent Season.
Kelly and I always enjoy seeing your smiling faces at the Legion and remember if you need anything stop by and let
us know your needs or concerns. We are a Family and we can’t help if we don’t know.
“Veterans Still Serving”
From the Auxiliary President
In lieu of our regular meeting in January, the Auxiliary celebrated at our Annual Christmas Party at Fricano’s in
Caledonia. We enjoyed getting together and had lots of fun! We will be celebrating our 10th Annual Wine & Beer
Tasting Event on Friday, 2/8/2019, from 5-9pm. We are looking for volunteers to help. The sign-up sheet is in the bar
by the door.
We are asking Auxiliary members to bring appetizers for the event and to have them there by 3pm that day.
Sponsors this year are: Cascade Winery, Henry Fox, and Schmohz Brewery. We will have a wide variety of wines,
ciders and craft beers.
Euchre Tournaments continue every 1st Saturday of the month. Please sign up by noon and Euchre starts promptly
at 12:30pm. Come join in on the fun!
All Auxiliary membership renewals should be renewed by now but if you haven’t, please contact Jenny Baisch at 616-
308-9848. The bartenders will not serve anyone that has not renewed so please have your cards with you. Our goal
for 2019 is 208 members. Currently, the ALA has 159 members paid for 2019 (139 senior renewals, 15 senior new, 4
junior renewals, and 1 junior new). Just a reminder that if you have been a member for over 40 years, the ALA pays
for your membership.
Our next Auxiliary meeting will be on Wednesday, 2/13/2019. Happy hour at 6pm with meeting at 7pm. If you have
little ones, we will have babysitting available for free. Hope to see you all there! Please feel free to reach out to me
anytime with any questions, concerns or ideas. Contact Information is: Penny Kirk (President): penny.

Thank you all for your support to our American Legion Post 305! God Bless you, our Military and Veterans!
From the SAL Commander
Happy middle of winter, friends and members of Post 305!
I would like to thank all of the members who attended the January Sons meeting and enjoyed the pizza from Three
Brothers Pizza in Middleville.
The current membership report for the Sons is 222. There are still about 50 members that need to renew so please
swing in and take care of the 2019 dues.
Be sure to buy last minute meat bundle tickets, this year’s drawing is on Super Bowl Sunday and is provided by
Caledonia Meat Packaging. Also discussed at the Sons meeting was discontinuing the current Bingo license. We
have paid the yearly dues to stay current hoping someone would eventually show interest in taking over the Bingo
night. The plan, as of now, is to vote at the next meeting on the future of the license. Also the members voted to
approve a yearly donation to the Dutton Food Pantry, which was at the request of a current member. Discussed and
tabled until the next meeting, was a fundraiser idea for the weekdays and will be voted on at the next meeting when
further information is obtained.
Please be sure to check the Post website and calendar for upcoming events this winter. The next Sons meeting will be
held on February 11th at 7:00 pm sharp. Social time begins at 6:30 pm.
See you at the Legion,
Welcome to all our new members. We hope you will be active as much as possible and provide new ideas and
refreshing thoughts on supporting and handling Post matters. For those members that have not yet renewed their
membership, please consider doing it now. Have a great New Year.

Let’s keep up the support!
The legion has many various volunteer positions available if any one has extra time on there hands. Inquires can be
addressed to the Commander, Sal & Auxiliary President or Post Manager. In the day and age where greed is making
everyone focus on getting and receiving, few members like yourselves are still committed to giving and helping.
Thanks. You know who you are.
Look at your Legion calendar, web site, Face book and whiteboard in lounge for all up and coming specials, activities
and events. Interested in renting legion hall and kitchen? Big events and small, Call and ask for post manager.
