I would like to talk a little about the lack of support we seem to have from our members. There seems to be the same 6 to 10 people that get involved and help out with fund raising events, parades, funerals, etc... These events are a big part of our post and serve our veterans and our community. So that being said, ask yourself why are you a member? Is it just to carry a card? Is it just to come into our post and other posts to enjoy the bar? Or are you a member because you still care about our nation and our local communities. You still have a desire to serve and help those in need. You’re still proud to be a veteran who served our country. It is completely understandable for families with small children to not have much time to give, but there are over 300 Legionnaires at our post and only 3 percent are actually involved. I would also like to challenge post Vietnam era vets to get involved with meetings, color guard, firing squad, and post officers. Our WWII, Korea, and Vietnam vets have been carrying the load for a lot of years and it’s time for the next generation to step up. Enough said on that.
Another Texas Hold’em will be conducted on February 17, 18 and 19. This is always a money maker for the Post and as stated above WE CAN USE SOME HELP. The work is simple; you need not know anything about the game. The job requires you to set in a chair, count money, record it and hand out poker chips to players. TJ’S Lounge personnel do all the hard work and answer any questions you may have. It is a chance for those of you who can’t get more involved in Post activities to help out and minimize the time spent of the 6 to 10 people.
Also on February 19th, the band Amperage will play from 8 PM to 12 PM. Cost is $3 per person with food available. We will also have an open license that night so you can bring your friends and nonmembers.
General member meeting is February 2. Our bar and ops, and officers meetings for March will be February 28. On Super Bowl Sunday February 6 we will be open to the public with a bean bag tournament in the afternoon and the super bowl after. So come by the post and have some fun.
Thanks,
Don Stevens
From the Auxiliary President
Hello Ladies!!
The Auxiliary’s first Euchre Tournament was a great success. We had 6 tables on New Year’s Day. Our next tournament will be February 5th. Sign up will begin at noon with play at 1:00PM. Please bring an Appetizer to share. The other dates are scheduled for March 5th (annual Soup Cook-off), and April 2nd (annual Brown Bag Auction).
Please keep January 28th open for our 2nd Wine Tasting Event. This event runs from 5:00PM to 9: 00PM and is open to the public. The Auxiliary does all the serving of the food and wine, which requires a lot of people. We will need help with set up, serving and clean up. If you are unable to attend, but can bring an appetizer to pass, it would be greatly appreciated. Don’t forget we are still sponsoring the “magazines for our troops” program. There is a Priority Mail box at the legion for you to drop off your old or new magazines. Non-perishable food and other personal items that are needed are also listed on the box. Please help support our troops! Remember your 2011 membership dues are now late. Please get them paid so we can reach our goals. I would like to thank everyone that attended our Christmas Dinner. We had a great turn out and delicious food. Our next meeting is February 9th. Social hour will be at 6:00PM , with the meeting following at 7:00PM. See you there!
Make a great day…. Kristen Lazarski
From the SAL Commander

We are in hopes of planning a chili cook-off in February or early March. Look for more details at the post soon.
Chuck Clark will be laminating cards at the meeting for $1.00 so be sure to see him at the meeting. Hope all you Sons will take a couple hours out of your schedule once a month to attend our meetings, it sure would be nice to see new faces.
God bless our servicemen and women

From ALR Director
Hello Riders,
Our Vets Home bingo was enjoyed by all who were there, the Vets and the helpers. I would like to thank Chet Teater for leading this event and all the helpers who made our Vets feel welcomed. Mike Whipple made an awesome Turkey dinner.
The February meeting is on the 15th. Our “itchin to ride” party is March 19 and we will still be working on the details at our February meeting. As usual there will be biker games, raffles and 50/50’s at the party. Amperage will be back again this year helping the party rock. This event is open to the public so spread the word and bring your friends. If you are a legion member and love to ride and have fun with other bikers come join the ALR.
Thanks, Don A. Stevens
