American Legion Post 305 - April - 2018

                                            From the Legion Commander

Hi Members,

Well it's April and time for Nominations again. The future leadership of this Post is up to you Legion Members.
Please join us at our General meeting on Wednesday, April 4th at 7:30pm, social at 6:30pm.

The Friday Fish Fries are all done with and were very successful. Thank you to the many volunteers that made
this possible. It would not happen without you!

For a dinner change, our SAL is having a Steak Fry on Friday, April 6th from 4:30 to 7pm or until gone. Tony,
Spud and the gang are serving up a great meal, so bring a big appetite and enjoy! The Sons will also raffle off
the stainless grill that evening. Buy many tickets to improve your odds of winning.

Start your Saturday off right with our famous All-you-can-eat Breakfast Buffet on April 7th from 8am-10:30am.
This includes coffee, juice or milk. Then at noon join the Auxiliary for Euchre. Play starts at 12:30pm. They are
having their soup cook-off that day, too. Buy your tasting ticket and enjoy more great Legion Family food.

Attention Post and Squadron 305 Past Commanders. The 5th District Past Commanders Friday the 13th Dinner
will be at our Post this time. The cost is $10 each and social starts at 6pm.The sign up sheet is by the lounge
door. Please attend the dinner. Help is needed before and after.  But fun will be had by all!

Our Legion is having a raffle for a Mossberg 500 Shotgun on Saturday, April 28th. Support your Post and
purchase you tickets at the bar or from an E-board member.

See you around the Post,

                                                                                Wally Brodock

                                                                     From the Auxiliary President

Hello Auxiliary Members,

Our March meeting was a short one. Only 5 Officers and 5 Members were present. But in 25 minutes we covered
all business, old and new.

Spring is finally here, but in Michigan that doesn't necessarily mean warmer weather. Well, we can always hope...

One thing is for sure in Spring. Nomination and Election of Unit Officers and Aux. E-board Members. That will
take place at out next meeting on Wednesday, April 11 at 7pm. We will vote for President, Vice President,
Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, Historian, and 3 members to round out the Auxiliary E-Board Committee.

Friday, April 6th, the SAL is having a Steak Fry dinner from 4:30 to 7pm or until gone. Our Unit members are
asked to donate brownies and cookies for dessert. The grill raffle will take place that evening, so get your tickets

On Saturday April 7th we will have our Euchre Tourney and Soup Cook-off. Euchre sign up at noon, play
begins at 12:30pm. Bring a crockpot of your favorite soup for tasting and voting. No chili, please.

Friday, April 13th our Post will host the 5th District Past Commanders Dinner. Our Auxiliary will provide pies
for their dessert. Let's donate our best for those honored guests. Post 305 is also having a Mossberg 500
Shotgun Raffle on Saturday, April 28th. Tickets are available at bar.

Unit Music Chairman Nancy Dunnuck encourages us to sing/listen to "The Battle Hymn of the Republic". This
is our song of the month for April.

I have decided to follow in my predecessor Lisa Hyde's footsteps and run for a 3rd year as your President. Being
Unit 305 President has been quite an experience. I am sure more excitement will come!

April Fools,

                                                                                  Terri Brodock

                                                                 From the SAL Commander

Happy April SAL members and legion friends, I hope this newsletter finds everyone enjoying the sunshine and
warming weather. Welcome back to post 305 all the snowbirds and winter travelers. It has been a great winter at
the post however we are gearing up for a busy few months.

First off we kick off the spring with another Spuds Steak Fry on April 6th. Serving time will be 4:30pm to 7:
00pm. We are in need of volunteers so swing in Thursday night and help set up or Friday night to help around
the kitchen or help clean up afterwards. Also on this date we will be drawing the winning ticket for the grill that
is located in the lounge. Plenty of grill raffle tickets available for purchase. Any Sons member can sell tickets, so
please grab the bucket and tickets and make the rounds when you are available.

April 13th is the next past commanders meeting and dinner. Please see myself or Kirk Kemp if you are
interested in attending.

At the last SAL meeting on March 12, 2018 we had a guest speaker from the 5th District give us some valuable
ideas and service projects that the Sons can support. Earl King, the senior vice of the district made himself
available to our squadron for any future questions or concerns. Please contact myself or my fellow officers and
we would be glad to help forward anything of interest.

Saturday, May 12th at 9:00 am volunteers are needed for a couple hours for Road Side clean up. The SALs
sponsor the road cleanup so I need to ask that we have enough manpower to complete the job. The good news is
we have 246 Sal members so it should not take long to pick up and beautify our 100th street section.

Next meeting will be held on April 9th starting at 7:00 pm sharp. Social time starts at 6:30. It is nice to see all of
the new faces that have been attending the meetings. Your ideas and voice are appreciated. Thanks to all our
great volunteers.

                                      American Legion Riders-ALR News

I want to start off by thanking everyone who planned, donated, volunteered and attended our Rock n Ride
party/fundraiser in March. We didn’t quite get the attendance we wanted but we still raised some money for our
veteran programs and that’s why we are here. Special thanks to Judy Brodock for all of the work she put into
the event. We will be starting our weekly rides in April, weather permitting. We are changing the days of our
weekly rides this year, check the post for a flier explaining what we would like to do. Thank you for your
continued support and we’ll see you on the road.

welcome to wear your Military Uniforms to take part in these ceremonies. We older members are getting a little
more tired with each passing year and would love to work with younger members to carry on this Post tradition

with the Post at 616-891-1882. Better yet, come to the Legion meeting Wednesday night April 4th at 7:30 or 6:30
